Hosoonyi: The traditional Korean Food Will Make You Hot!

10/12/03 by Kim Jin-Soo (Korea), Oh Jeong-Yun (Korea) and Park Jin-Woo (Korea)

Location

Hosoonyi is located on Aurora in Edmonds where there are many Korean shops and Restaurants. Since Aurora is far from SPU, it takes more than 30 minutes by car or about 2 hours by bus. If you take a bus, it is inconvenient, because you must transfer to the other buses, which are the 346 and the 358 at Northgate or downtown. Then you have to walk to the restaurants. Especially after 8:00 PM you must be careful, as there are strangers on the way to Hosoonyi. If you take your car after 8:00 PM, it is not as dangerous. However, their parking lots are small, so you must be careful when parking. My advice is to park at Safeway's’ parking lot next door and walk over to Hosoonyi.

The food of Hosoonyi restaurant

Hosoonyi is a wonderful restaurant. There are many good foods. The main menu at this restaurant is To Fu Soup. Although some people think they use artificial seasoning, I think their To Fu Soup is the best in Seattle. Besides, all the kinds of To Fu Soup are just $ 6.95, including 7 or 8 kinds of side dishes and steamed rice. When you order the dish, you can choose a different degree of pungency. If you can not eat spicy food, you should ask the server for less spicy. Because when I ate the spiciest To Fu Soup, in spite of being Korean, I felt hot. The Pork Bul-Go-Ki is the dish I would like to recommend to other people. It is a little sweet, but I think it is rather easy to accept for Americans. The pan-broiled octopus (seasoned with red pepper) is delicious. If you want to eat hot food, you will not be disappointed by the foods at Hosoonyi. There is also the Soju which is a korean traditional liquor. It is hard liquor since the amount of alcohol, 25%, is about 6 times more than beer when you drink it. You must be careful of getting drunk. Even though it is hard liquor, it is tasty.

Hosoonyi is a typical Korean restaurant which could be easily found everywhere in Korea. They serve a kind of food that families try together. So, it looks like a family restaurant. Because of this, it is noisy and crowded, especially at dinner
time. It has a friendly atmosphere. But there is no carpet and no tablecloths, so it feels cold except at dinner time. There is something that I did not like. The cashiers are unkind and the
servers are unhelpful because they are very busy at dinner time. It is their fault, especially that the tableware seems unclean. They are too busy to pay attention to customers. However, I don’t think that it is a good thing.
