Evidence Based Practice Tools Summary

Hierarchy of Evidence Summary

Level I: Evidence of a systematic review or meta analysis of all relevant randomized controlled trials (RCT), or evidence-based clinical practice guidelines based on the above.

Level II: Evidence from at least 1 RCT.

Level III: Evidence from controlled trials without randomization.

Level IV: Evidence from case-control and cohort studies.

Level V: Evidence from systematic reviews of descriptive and qualitative studies.

Level VI: Evidence from a single descriptive or qualitative study.

Level VII: Evidence from the opinion of authorities and/or reports of expert committees.

  • complete systematic reviews and protocols (reviews in progress)

Database of Abstract of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE)

  • brief critical appraisals of previously published reviews
  • no full text, but you should be able to find some of the original research in MEDLINE
