Course Description and Objectives

Please see the detailed listing of expected learning outcomes.

In this course, the student will examine the physical organization of computer hardware. The central processing unit (CPU) is studied in detail, examining the execution of computer instructions and hardware to support this. Performance enhancement details, such as pipelining, are studied. Memory systems are also studied in detail, from simple memories to caches and virtual memory systems.

Upon completing this course, the student will understand the basic organization of the central computer systems, including many modern performance-enhancement techniques.
