Write a 2500-3500 word formal (journal quality) article about your project. This article will describe your project including purpose, goals, design, implementation, and results. You should use academic-style writing and include relevant illustrations, diagrams, tables and charts.
The project article MUST confirm to the IEEE Transactions Journal style. Download the Template for All Transactions document and use it as a starter for writing your article. Please make use MS-Word's Heading 1, 2 and 3 to create headings for sections.
Your paper should include the following major sections. You are encouraged to create additional sections and sub-sections as needed. Consult with the instructor if any of these sections seem inappropriate for your project.
Give a 100-200 word overview of this article. It is usually best to write the abstract after completing the rest of the article.
The introduction sets the stage for the rest of the paper. In here you should include the motivation for this project and relevant background information. You also should include a brief synopsis of any prior work and similar projects and products. Be sure to include footnote references to sources that describe this background info and prior work.
Describe the design of your project. Start with a high-level description and then include sub-sections for various sub-systems. This section should include a block diagram of your system.
Highlight the key aspects of your project's implementation. You may want to discuss key circuits, style of software, cost, size, construction, etc. This section should include at least one photo or illustration of your system.
Discuss the success of your project. If relevant, include charts or diagrams that show how well your system performs against standards.
Very briefly summarize the paper and discuss "where to go from here." Are there additional features or modifications that you would make if you had more time?
Each team must send the instructor an electronic copy of the article by the due date. The instructor will give comments and suggestions on the first draft to the team. The team will then revise this document and create a final draft.
Definitely include the paper in your portfolio. You may wish to bring it with you to job interviews or self-publish it on the web. Also, this paper could make a very strong entry in the IEEE student paper contest. You may enter the contest even after graduation as long as the work was done as a student.
