Purpose

In this design review, your basic design documents will be reviewed. This is a critical step because the path that your team takes in pursuing its project will be determined by the basic design decisions made at this point. This review will also examine your functional specification to ensure that you have developed appropriate goals for your project.

Preparation

Your team should have turned in the following documents by 11:00AM on the day of the review:

  1. Introduction

  2. Design matrix

  3. Block diagram

  4. Functional Specification

  5. Schedule

Each member of the team should be intimately familiar with all aspects of the team's design. Also, each team member should be familiar with alternative designs considered, and the reasons for choosing the final design.

Grading

Grading will reflect how well the team has prepared its initial design and documented it in the four required documents.

Category Percentage of score
Alternative designs - How well did the team research and evaluate alternative designs? 10
Basic design decisions - Did the team adequately research and develop all aspects of the chosen design? 35
Functional Spec - Does the functional spec adequately describe the interfaces and all of the requirements for the project? 40
Schedule - Is the schedule complete and reasonable? 15
