Purpose: Educate the public about your project

Note: The Erickson Undergraduate Research Conference (May 9) includes a poster session. You are strongly encouraged to submit your poster to the Erickson Conference.

Your team has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into making your project successful. Now is your chance to show the SPU community how much work you have done. You will create a full-size poster that gives an overview of your project. All posters will be displayed in the OMH so that the SPU community can get an idea of the quality of work that you do.

Images of your product

In order to have quality images of your product, you must assemble a mock-up of your final design in time to photograph it for your poster. Your mock-up must be in in the final case, with appropriate external components in place. These include displays, buttons, knobs and artwork. In other words, the images for your poster must look just like the final project.

Supplies and tools

All teams that present their poster in the Erickson Conference will receive free full-color large format laser printing if they follow the procedure below:

  1. The team must sign up for the Erickson Conference by the registration deadline.
  2. The team must submit a preview of the poster to Prof. Bolding for approval before sending it to be printed.
  3. The team must obtain a budget number from Prof. Bolding to use when submitting the job.

Content

Your poster should inform the public about the purpose of your project, the basic design, and the final result. You should make your poster accessible to two types of readers:

  1. The passer-by. A person walking by your poster should be able to glance at it and get a basic idea of what is going on in about five seconds. Hopefully, your poster will entice the passer-by to stay and read more.
  2. The interested reader. Your poster should have enough information to give the interested reader a very clear picture of the purpose, methods, and results of your project.

Appearance

Your poster should be very neat and visually appealing. Use many illustrations and/or photographs. Display data graphically when possible. Be careful when cutting and mounting so that you produce a quality poster.

Specifications

Your poster should be on a standard 24" x 36" poster board. You should cover most of the poster with content (text or graphics).

Suggestions

Here are a few possibilities - be creative and add your own:

bulletDisplay a color-coded block diagram of your system.
bulletExplain how your project fits in with the unique mission of SPU engineering.
bulletMount a spare PCB and highlight individual components and circuit areas.
bulletInclude a photograph or two of your complete project.
bulletShow the user interface of your project.

Grading

Your poster will be graded on content, presentation (layout and visual appearance) and neatness. All team members must participate in making the team poster.
