LiveMath
Evaluating Indefinite Integrals

MAT 1226, Winter 2001

Step 1:  Installation of LiveMath Plug-In.

  • If you are planning to use LiveMath on your own computer, you will need to download and install the LiveMath Plug-in for Internet Explorer and Netscape.  For instructions, please go to the download page.

  • If you are working in a campus computer lab, the plug-in should already be installed.  You can test whether or not it is installed by going to the LiveMath Plug-In installation test page.  On the test page, you should see a spinning 3-dimensional graph.  If you do not see the spinning graph on the test page, you will be unable to use this computer because the security settings on the computers in the labs will not allow you to install the software yourself.  If you do find a campus computer which does not have the plug-in installed, please notify Dr. Gill.

Step 2:  Go to the LiveMath notebook for evaluating indefinite integrals and work through the homework assignment: .

Section 8.6 # 35, 36, 37, 40.  For each of these problems, use BOTH LiveMath and the integral tables inside the back of the book to evaluate each integral.  (Note: the answers may look quite different...)

Work through all parts of "Patterns in Integrals" on page 545 except part (d) of #4.  All integrals that say to "use a computer algebraic system" (or use "CAS") should be done using LiveMath.
